I mean I feel like there's a bigger difference between a 25 year old and a 15 year old, than a 25 year old and an 35 year old. So if you're in your twenty's in a fandom with a bunch of high schoolers it's going to be way more jarring than if you're in a fandom with other adults. And thusly constantly remind you how much older you are.

That's true.

I wonder if that's in part because the things the 15 y.os are doing are still relatively fresh, memory-wise, for the 25 y.os, so the urge to compare where they are in life is stronger. I know that when I was in college, hearing people talking about graduating high school etc. was still far more relevant to me then than hearing people talking about college is now, if that makes sense.

This. I'm in my twenties, and I always feel more of a maturity gap with the teens in my fandom than with the people who are in their forties. Young people stick out more as young people than older people, so the age difference is more noticeable.
