I’m 27 and I refer to myself as old all the time. I think it’s because at this age, I thought I’d have my life together, but I don't. My parents, when they were 27, had kids, their steady careers, were house-owners, car-owners, and generally were living the stereotypical American dream. For my generation, with the recession and shifts in culture, it’s different. I don’t own a house. I’m lucky in that I do have a successful career, but I’m not married and the closest thing I have to a kid is my cat.

For me, anyway, saying, “I am so old” is my way of coping with the fact I thought I would have accomplished more by the time I’m in my twenties. It’s a joking way of reaffirming that I’m still young, that I have more time to do these things.
