Honestly, he never should have been on tumblr in the first place. You want to be a creator of a well-known property running a public blog that all the lowest bottom-feeder obsessive fans can see and target, you need to have way more control over the interface than a site with a format like tumblr allows. I've got a thin hope that Gaider will just start blogging again on a site where he can be master of his domain instead of subject to the whims of reblogs, but he might have burned out his motivation already, and I don't blame him.

I agree. I can see why he thought it might be fun, especially since his attempts to interact with fans on the BSN were always pretty catastrophic due to his own shirtiness and the fact that it was the BSN. However, BW is a lightning rod for hypercriticism from every angle, and tumblr can turn the most milquetoast of comments into an -ism worse than any other -ism to every be perpetrated on a minority. He was in over his head the moment he signed up.

He really was. There's a reason why so much of Bioware has withdrawn from individual interaction with fans over the years, and left fools to cry into the void about why none of the team is directly available for abuse. I really like and respect Gaider, and I loved the insight into DA's development that he provided, but there's a knack to dealing with crazy people that he never had, though I give him props for not having the creator meltdown that certain trolls strive to produce.

Eh, sometimes creators can make tumblr work well. They just have to be smart about how they interact with the fans. Matt Rhodes has a tumblr and just posts game art. Kieron Gillen has/had a tumblr and actively answered quite a few asks, but he was selective about it.

Gaider's problem is that DA fandom has more batshit insane SJWs per capita than seemingly any other fandom. He reacts to every criticism they make, and spouts off some stupid shit that makes the shit storm worse, and then they just get even angrier.

That's a good point. I suppose to should amend what I said that if you want to be a creator with a blog where you encourage open discussion, you'd better have complete control over it. Gaider didn't avoid giving absurd or inflammatory questions validity they didn't deserve, and once assholes figured out he'd give them the time of day, well.
