The fact of the matter is that you're considered "old" once you're past the age of about 24. I am personally 29 and have been in long term book/movie/tv fandoms since I was 17 and in band fandoms since I was 13. The facts remain that I am old and that I'm not like the young, new fans that have cool slang and ways of writing in all lowercase that merit thousands of reblogs on Tumblr.

It's not always a matter of ego, but actually me (or others like me) trying to deal with the fact that I am older than I used to be and I literally have no idea what comes next. I think that it wouldn't be so bad if some of us late 20 somethings hadn't grown up in fandom directly, so we'd be able to contemplate what life would be like down the line without fandom? Does that make any sense?

Also, Tumblr/social media skews really young half the time, so it automatically makes you feel if you no longer fit that bracket and everyone else is either in high school or college.
