(Anonymous) 2015-01-29 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)But Bucky is a white male. And he's not even involved in a canon romance with Steve (which is what makes it especially ridiculous). It's just that Steve/Bucky is the first ship to really challenge Steve/Tony in terms of popularity -- so the insecure shippers bash him.
Now is there some misogyny and racism directed at Uhura? Yes (people who make vicious comments about her looks or who call her slurs for example). But, on the whole, I don't think the hate directed at her is really due to her being black or a woman.
It's just that she's getting in the way of a preferred ship. Which is immature behavior on the part of those shippers to be sure, but shippers of all stripes seem to go down that route unfortunately.

Like you said, if people hate even on the male characters when they get in the way of their ship, it figures how much hate a woc will get in fandoms like star trek.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-29 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)I don't think they dislike her for being black or a woman, but rather just for being in the way of Kirk/Spock. It's immature, but I don't think the hatred is based on bigotry any more than it is on the part of Steve/Tony fans who hate on Bucky.
