I had no idea Uhura was getting so much criticism. She was one of the few characters that Into Darkness didn't ruin for me.

I think that the opinion that her character in the reboot is one of few good things that these writers did is one shared by most of the general audience and critics.
I don't think that someone who isn't involved in the star trek fandom in places like tumblr or the trekmovie site (that's probably what OP is talking about and yes, she gets a lot of hate from those groups) will get the impression that the general audience seems to criticize her more than the others.

That makes sense. I have plenty of friends who are also into the reboot and love Uhura, but I'm not into the fandom in general.
