Personally, I'm looking forward to it and can't wait for the date to approach... but for exactly all the wrong reasons.

It's such a joke, I have no idea how Qatar's going to even attempt to pull it off. I mean, they're talking about moving the tournament dates, but just due to all the other conflicts with the Winter Olympics and the local leagues... yeah. None of the officials want to back out of it now, but I really want nothing more than to watch as the whole plan crashes and burns and either England or America or Germany has to step in at the last second since we're the only ones who have enough ready-to-go stadiums.

Honestly, I kind of doubt that'll happen - just because no matter how bad it gets, they can still just throw more money at FIFA. It probably will be an embarrassing disaster from a sports perspective though.

Ssh! Allow me my America-comes-in-to-save-the-football-world-through-our-sheer-ridiculous-amount-of-American-football-stadiums fantasies!

But really though, one part of me agrees with you. It'd be a monumental decision to change it, and yet... not only will be extremely hot during the summer, but they're planning on building all the stadiums and an entire city from scratch, they're building said stadiums with essentially slave labor, alcohol is illegal for residents to drink but when it comes to tourists and their money okay then? Oh, and their team has never qualified for a World Cup before.

I mean, if Sochi had some hiccups, this is going to be a fullblown disaster.

I'm probably being too cynical, but I guess I just feel like... does FIFA really care whether the stadiums work well or the hotels are nice or Qatar's team is terrible or whether Qatar is founded on the backs of slave labor? I don't think they do, and if FIFA's happy with it, I don't think anyone else can change it. They certainly don't care about piddly little things like gay rights.

Oh well, hopefully the oil market will stay down for the next 7 years and they won't have enough money to bribe their way out of it. God damn FIFA.

They care if the stadiums work and their own hotels are nice. They certainly don't give a shit about other people's hotels or slave labour, let alone gay rights.

That's fair, although I think Qatar can build at least one nice hotel. Probably.

I'm with you. Awarding it to Qatar was horribly corrupt and repulsive, but I'm looking forward to the fallout. The matches being a joke because of the hot weather being totally unsuitable, for one. Yet all the football fans will keep watching, exposing them for the dicks they are who truly don't care about anything as long as the football factory keeps pumping out matches.

This makes me a bad person, perhaps. But football is rife with violence, rape and corruption already and it's appalling from the outside that the fans generally don't care. It'll be nice to have this all come to a head in a way that exposes it.

I was watching the Last Leg recently and Dara O'Briain summed it up nicely when he said that football isn't a profession like being a welder. There's a certain media attention that comes with the job. You can't expect to be a criminal and expect to still it to be business as usual when the world's watching you. Unfortunately, that's been the case too long with FIFA.
