Re: Informal poll: hanging up on telemarketers

I say, "I'm not interested, and will never be interested, so please take me off your call list."

For the fake "Microsoft Technical Department" phishers who are trying to get you to go to a website and buy wahtever, I play along and pretend to be really dumb for a good 5 minutes or so, and then I say, as if to someone sitting next to me, "Did the trace finish?" and then I say, "Ha ha, guys, we've traced this call. Goodbye."

Soemtimes, when they ask and start trolling for demographic info, I tell them that they ahve reached a ten-thousand year old genderless angelic being with four sets of wings and no disposible income... and then I hang up.

Those scams are so weird. One of them called me recently, and I said, no, I don't have Microsoft, I have a Mac, what are you talking about, and the dude still kept at it. "Ma'am! Your computer is in danger! You must visit--" THEN I hung up. So bizarre.

I like that trace thing, though, and may have to use it myself sometime soon. ;)

What I find so hilarious is that they're calling my home number, but talking as I'm a corporation and they're an IT department.

(Oh, riiiight! The IT department in my bathroom linen closet Gotcha.

I tried to tell one I don't have a computer at all. The twit started arguing with me about it so I hung up. She called back twice and I ended up yelling at her about "harassment" and then she called back the next day and got Mum (who told her that she wasn't the one in charge of the computer (which is true).
