Re: Het Erasure?
(Anonymous) 2015-01-30 01:42 am (UTC)(link)Obviously, this doesn't erase straight characters from the canon or invalidate the fact that they ARE canonically straight. So in that sense, no, 'het erasure' really isn't a thing. But it definitely creates a sense of being not one of the cool kids and rejected by the rest of fandom if you do prefer het, which is never a pleasant experience no matter why or how it occurs.
Re: Het Erasure?
(Anonymous) 2015-01-30 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)I'd be a liar if I said I never read posts over tumblr where someone was saying that shipping the het canon ship is 'boring' or even homophobic and I try to remind myself that many people in the fandoms are pre-teens but it's still annoying to see that some (straight) fangirls essentially make it a het vs slash war between what is more 'cool' to like and they turned queer relationships and characters into their 'trendy thing' and I'm like you really don't understand the very thing you're preaching.
