Except in his statement on the subject, Bryan went out of his way to say that they decided to hook Makorra up in book one. At that point seasons two, three and four hadn't even been conceived yet - so at that point Makorra WAS endgame as far as he knew. He said liked the idea of Korrasami from the start, but never for a moment thought that he'd actually get to go ahead with it.

That they used a ten second handhold to claim they were paving the way for LGBTQ representation in media didn't sit well with me either. Like they were doing barely any effort and claiming they did so much more.

You're going to have to provide an actual quote for this one, because they made no such claim. Bryan pointed out that he DIDN'T think Korrasami was a "slam dunk victory" for representation, because they were still prevented from being more explicit.

Look at Mike's tumblr post.

Bryan said he was a Korrasami shipper before anyone even saw Asami. Second, no, they said they didn't even bother asking Nick until season four. There was no 'pressure'. It's obvious they didn't decide on Korrasami until season three. Pretending otherwise is blatantly a lie and only underscores how Korrasami was just for brownie points in the end.

Being a shipper, even if it's your own characters, doesn't mean you plan to make it canon. And what does the point they decided to ask Nick and make it canon have to do with whether or not it was for brownie points? They didn't know Nick was going to take it off the air and make it web only until season 3, and they probably didn't bother asking while it was still on the air because they knew there'd be no chance. And of course knowing Korrasami had a lot of shippers probably did influence them into going for it. If you're going to do something risky like that, it's better to know you have support. Knowing you're going to get """brownie points""" from a lot of people for doing something doesn't mean you don't want to do it for other reasons.
