That's the thing, if he had just admitted that they had changed their minds sometime during s3 and had decided Korrasami would have been a more satisfying ending for them, then I'd be totally fine with it.

It's that they backtracked, lied, and threw the people who actually enjoyed season one under the bus and claimed they were ~always~ into Korrasami is what makes them shitty writers in my eyes. A tumblr user summed it up nicely. "It's like being broken up with and then being told they never loved anyway."

Was Korrasami “endgame,” meaning, did we plan it from the start of the series? No, but nothing other than Korra’s spiritual arc was.

Once Mako and Korra were through, we focused on developing Korra and Asami’s relationship. Originally, it was primarily intended to be a strong friendship. Frankly, we wanted to set most of the romance business aside for the last two seasons. Personally, at that point I didn’t want Korra to have to end up with someone at the end of series.

But as we got close to finishing the (season 2) finale, the thought struck me: How do I know we can’t openly depict that? No one ever explicitly said so.

Yes he said he joked about shipping Korrasami during season one but he never seriously even considered it as a viable pairing until near the end of season two. In season one and a majority of season two, there was no deliberate romantic attraction written between Korra and Asami. Bryan admitted that he didn't even consider the idea of Korrasami endgame until the season two finale. This is essentially an admission that they did not deliberately write romantic interactions between Korra and Asami and season three was indeed the point where they shifted gears and turned Korra and Asami's friendship into a growing romantic attraction.


Meanwhile from Mike's tumblr:
Our intention with the last scene was to make it as clear as possible that yes, Korra and Asami have romantic feelings for each other. The moment where they enter the spirit portal symbolizes their evolution from being friends to being a couple.
This is one part of the post where he clarifies the narrative of the show on Korra and Asami's relationship. Nowhere on that post does he claim that they intended for Korra and Asami to be together from day one.

If it seems out of the blue to you, I think a second viewing of the last two seasons would show that perhaps you were looking at it only through a hetero lens.


Further admission from the creators that season three is the point where they started to consciously include romantic attraction between Korra and Asami in the show.
Can we stop with all these "waah they lied to us!!" claims now?

Except even LGBT people who don't ship it didn't see anything in the last 2 seasons, which makes the "hetero lens" comment nothing more than a slap in the face and just another way for Bryan to fellate himself through his own BS.

.......no??? Not every straight person is going to see every canon straight ship, ever. And not every LGBT person is going to see every canon LGBT ship, ever. However, while I don't think the hetero lens is the reason for everyone who didn't see it not seeing it, lots of LGBT people have a "hetero lens." I'll even admit I have one for shows that I fully expect not to have LGBT content because of censorship, such as shows aimed at children. Such as Korra.
