DBZ and Inuyasha are definitely ones for me.

The DBZ fandom is fairly dead and man...the old fic does not hold up.

Okay, but for B/V fic, have you read Vejiitasei Ascendant? Because if not, DUDE. It's an old old old fic, so old I assume it's a classic, but also so old that maybe newer fans haven't heard of it. It's hands down the best fanfic I have ever read.

What is the general plot of it?

Ohhhh man, it is the ultimate Vegeta/Bulma fic, written years ago. It's the original AU-where-Vejiitasei-was-never-destroyed-and-Bulma-goes-there fic. It has the most fabulous world building of any fanfic I've ever read, hands down. It takes one little detail of Vejiitasei never being destroyed by Freeza and spinning the rest of canon along from there, even up to the appearance of Future Trunks. The Saiyan Empire exists (uneasily) side by side with the Cold Emporium, and the political detail alone and picture of Saiyan society is praise worthy. But every character gets to shine, minor characters are fleshed out in the AU setting, and the OCs are not annoying at all (and I say this as someone who usually hates OCs. but as you might imagine, on Vejiitasei there are many Saiyans who are totally original characters). The story starts when Vegeta is a teenager, then skips ahead to the Chikyuu mission and what unfolds from there. But at the heart of the story is Vegeta, what he makes of being prince, what being prince makes of him, and his desire to become the Super Saiyan. Vegeta's characterization is top notch--smart, deadly, brusque, entitled, warrior; as is Bulma's--intelligent, brave, sassy, and a genius at a galactic level. Not to mention the Bulma/Vegeta relationship is gorgeous. Epic, epic fic in scope and in length. I could go on, lol. Forever unfinished, sadly, but the author posted her notes to the last part so you can get a pretty clear idea of what happens. It's archived on an old geocities page, and nowhere else anymore. Though I created an epub for myself for ease of reading...

Don't let the crappy page layout fool you.
