Re: Het Erasure?
(Anonymous) 2015-01-30 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)here's my reply
I think we are talking about the the 'strong independent woman who doesn't need no man' thing here because yeah.. everytime a female character is in love, fans will call her 'weak' or say she got reduced to a love interest even when it's not true. Idk if it's het erasure (we say 'het' b/c of course most of the romances in media with women are still het) as much as it's the erasure of women considered as human beings and who don't need to be single or unfeeling to be 'strong'.
Asexuality also shouldn't be used as an excuse to further marginalize people (woc, queer people) whose sexuality and feelings are already erased and made a bad thing.
adding that, in context, in the fandoms where slash is so popular some people seem to really think that pushing for more representation for gay people means they have to delete all the het romances and put them in some sort of black list and every time there is one it's 'cool' to hate on it by default just because it's het and not a your slash ship.
The problem is also that even when it comes to het, not all the ships are white characters and if you have a romance with pocs or an interracial couple, it's unfair to label it as just 'hollywood heteronormativity shit' when those couples can be representation for some people, even if it's not the kind of representation and diversity you specifically care about.
