21. I have to agree with this one, though I love anime as much as the next person does and I do ship my favorite characters, I realize I will never meet anyone like them in real life, for the love of god if I ever did meet them in real life I would kill them first rather then screw them.
And its hypocritical to love fantasy sex pairings but hating or finding real life pairing disgusting. I mean if you spend all your time loving a 2D picture then a 3D real live person what dose that say about you, that you are stuck in a delusional fantasy land and need to seek professional help.
Really people get a life and stop having fantasies about screwing some anime boy or girl and get a real person, or go out and have some real sex instead of your fantasy.

THANK YOU!!! Someone understands what the hell my secret means!
People are really too caught up in fantasies & really didn't read the damn secret. It's not anime vs. real life yaoi, I'm trying to say why do people think something like a jrock couple together, even just a fluff, being disgusting, but don't find an assload of people posting secrets about touching themselves to drawings gross?

LOL your welcome, I know what you when I was reading the comments I was confused why they were talking about RPGs and rainbows o_0
Yes some people focus to much in on their narrowed vision that they don't see the big picture, they focused in on the example and not on what you were saying. People are mixing real people fantasy with fantasy people fantasy, its not healthy physiologically wise.
A lot of people who make secrets here I think need help when they write a secret about how they touch themselves to fictional characters that do look like children, even though the anime states that they are older they still look like children, How can you fantasize about that ? Also the fact they are so free about it is quite sickening, I don't want to know their sex life or lack there of.

If they're posting it here, they're not exactly being "free" about it, are they? This is fandomsecrets, after all. The things that are posted here are generally things that people don't want anyone else to know.

That said, I find the whole "oh, she looks ten, but she's really eighteen, totally!" thing in anime (and the people who fap to that) incredibly disturbing as well, so I'm not actually arguing with you on that point.

Because it's a fantasy. There really is a difference between finding an anime character who looks young but isn't to be sexually attractive, and finding an actual young person attractive. It's a thin line, yes, but it's a very distinct line. Anime =/= real life, or even begin to resemble real life or real life physical aesthetics. (Though I readily admit there are gray areas and there are certainly situations that would raise warning flags.)

And that specific aside, finding something fictional or in your own head to be stimulating doesn't automatically mean you'd like it in real life. Finding anime characters who look young doesn't mean that the person finds actual real life children attractive. Which would be the only case in which I'd say someone needs help.

What about people with real live significant others with whom they have real live sex, who also ship anime pairings and find RPS squicky? Or do you think such people don't exist?

Also, how is fantasizing about a celebrity/celebrities any better than fantasizing about a fictional character/characters? They're about equally unattainable.

I admit that now that i re-read the secret, it can be somewhat confusing. overall, when I talk to anime fans, they block out anything that's not animated. I respect that they like anime, & they should respect I like jrock anime too. yes, I otp it, but I'm trying to say that many anime fans I find in general have a problem with real life otps, fluff, slash, whatever, & just block it out. it's something i don't understand about anime fans.
but, another thing i don't understand is how people touch themselves to drawings. what it is is paper & ink. why is that such a turn on to anime fans? touching themselves to it. that's not weird? yeah they can like the art, but isn't that extreme?

First of all, that comment was directed at [livejournal.com profile] akiraakito, not at you.

Second, we don't agree and I don't think we ever will -- or even understand each other's viewpoints, probably -- so let's give it a rest, okay? It's pointless and frustrating to keep arguing with someone who's never going to see things your way.

(Anonymous) 2008-01-04 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
no matter, i was talking to him/her as well. & everyone butts in on everyone's convos here, if you haven't noticed.

it's ok if we agree or disagree, i'm just saying why i feel this way. you don't have to be so rude about it

The automatic argument that comes to my mind is that if it were that weird or out of the ordinary, hentai animes and mangas wouldn't be available in the mass quantities they are. And all the porny doujinshi for non-hentai stuff.

Hentai is not my thing, but written and drawn erotica has been around forever. What do you think people got off to before there was TV? I've got a bunch of collections of Victorian erotica, some of it illustrated, and that's just paper and ink. Of fictional characters. And there have been dozens of articles and books and whatnot done on books and art and drawings that weren't exactly pornographic, but still served the same purpose as Hustler and Playboy do today. Hell, in the early 1900s, pulp detective novels were often used as masturbatory aides in lieu of outright pornography. There was no nudity or anything in the illustrations or covers, but they were full of attractive people and semi-naughty situations. Still just paper and ink.

I just don't find the idea weird at all, since it's...well, how porn started.

Clearly you didn't read all of what I said, for I explained I am one of those who do ship anime character. Also I'm talking about people who ignore real life relationships and who only live in their fantasy world, people who say "real people are icky anime is better"(yes I have had people in all seriousness say this to me) basically people who have a very juvenile outlook on sex. People who are in a any sort of 'real live' relationships understand the difference between reality and fantasy enough that while they can enjoy the anime ships and RPGs don't go over board with. They can act out some things in RPGs to enhance their relationships but realize when fantasy ends and real life begins. It is when people only want to be their fantasy only does it pose a problem.

While each is both unattainable, they are not equally unattainable. fantasizing about celebrities are better then fictional characters in that attributes that you find in celebrities are found in real life while most fictional characters that these people fantasizing about could never have the same attributes in real life. For example, you like an actor because they looks appealing to you, you could find some one in real life who looks similar. Some these fictional characters attributes that people find appealing about, you can never find in a real person. For example people who just love Inuyasha, he is a half dog demon and therefore you can't find these attributes in reality. For what it comes down to in anime is that they find the look of the characters appealing NOT their personality of the character; which you can find in real life. The look of most of these fictional characters are completely out of the realm of reality thus its unhealthy to focus so much desire on something you can never ever have, with celebrities you have more of a chance of finding someone similar traits.
Also with any fantasy once you only focus on the fantasy instead of reality it has become to much.

Okay, sorry, I did misunderstand. I agree with you there, and I'm sorry for jumping on you like that.

thank you for explaining that through. i'm glad you commented, you're good with words lol. maybe if people read your comment through they'll finally understand wtf it means

Re: OP of 21

An interesting argument, but I'd like to refute the idea that disliking "real life pairings" means someone is er, delusional. Actually, RPS (which is how I'm parsing your use of 'real life pairings', correct me if I'm wrong) squicks me because I worry about the fantasy/reality line. Namely, because a real, living person IS involved...that means that real, living person could also stumble across my jrock fic or actor slash or what have you. I'm not saying that's a likely scenario, but it's enough to be a huge turn-off for me personally -- and a lot of other people I know. From that perspective, one could argue the 3D fans are the ones with the 'unhealthy' fantasies :-/ I don't, though - because at the end of the day, actorslash writers aren't all out there stalking their favorite celebs, nor are they pining away waiting for Johnny Depp to come whisk them away to a Happy Magical Wonderland.

2D and 3D fantasies, at the end of the day, are BOTH just fantasies, and neither alone reflect on a person's relative sanity. It's if you try to ACT on it.

Re: OP of 21

[identity profile] akiraakito.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
No i didn't mean RPS, i was referring to those who fantasied about 2D characters to the point of a total exclusion of real life people. Meaning they don't even look at an attractive person in their own life that they might want to be with. That is what I find to be unhealthy.

Re: OP of 21

[identity profile] cryogenia.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, okay...yeah, that is pretty unbalanced XD; 2D or 3D, if you believe in your fantasy life more than your real life, you've got issues f^^
