That was NOT the original backstory. That was the retconned in backstory. Specifically put in to explain why a guy who probably had a literal harem and a lot of other not-very-serious commitments suddenly dropped all of that: for his one tru wuv from childhood!

(Fuck you Hudlin, you shit)

I still hate Hudlin and what he did to Storm, but that's not entirely true.

My wording could have been better. I'm aware of that first origin, but unless there's some additional pages I don't remember, that one wasn't skeevy.

The new backstory qualifies a lot more.

I like Black Panther, but due to poor writing he was kind of a dick at times when they were married and that soured me on him for a while (I'm cool with him again though). I ship Storm/Wolverine a lot more though (a lot of Wolverine's scenes with Storm were some of the few times I really liked him)

Christopher Priest could have made me believe their relationship, because I do think there's something there. A chemistry, a certain outlook on life... Priest could have 100% sold me on that.

Reggie Hudlin couldn't sell ice water in hell.

I'll concede that Black Panther given to Priest could do pretty much whatever and I'd believe Chris could have made it work.

Aw man, Black Panther is like one of the few superheroes I'd actually want to have a beer with. In the few appearances I saw him in, he seemed calm, level-headed, and generally a decent, thoughtful leader.

Also his miniseries ROCKED.

I love Storm and while Black Panther isn't my fave superhero I still like him, but their relationship was not one I was all that keen on and I'm also kind of glad that they can't go that route in the MCU(unless they add in an OC who's name is suspiciously close to Ororo). I'm looking forward to his inclusion in the movies anyway.

Image: Storm and Black Panther, it looks like maybe he’s proposing to her?

Text: When I was a young teen, Ororo was one of my favorite characters. When she later hooked up with Black Panther, I really disliked him. I felt that they only coupled them u because they were both African and fairly well-known. Not to mention the original backstory, where she meets him as a kid is sort of skeevy. I hope I can get over my dislike of him in the film, because I do like the MCU. They literally CANNOT make them a couple.

I think Black Panther and Storm have a lot in common and their relationship could have really worked - but not by changing the backstory to weaken Storm, immediately separating them in their assorted appearances, and having Hudlin write it. Hint: loving a powerful woman does not make a man weak! They could have been a great marriage of powerful equals, but no, that's too scary. I agree with the OP that I'm glad they won't be getting together in the MCU.

If Marvel has their way with the Sony deal, you might be eating those words about 'no mutants' in MCU.

It's FOX who owns the X-Men film rights, not Sony. And Fox will never even when hell freezes over give up those rights.

Yeah, with the success of X-men First Class and Days of Future Past, there's just no fucking way. Hell, even if those movies hadn't been made and the last X-men movie created was still the hot mess that was The Last Stand I still would have trouble imagining them giving up the rights.

Note: I did, evidently, forget about X-men Origins which preceded First Class and came after Last Stand...I keep forgetting it exists. I feel like that's justified

You also forgot about X-Men: Wolverine.

I meant to only really talk about the period that came after Last Stand and before First Class, but I wasn't really clear (and, you're right, logically if First Class and Days of Future Past weren't created then The Wolverine would still be there since its creation didn't rely on either of those movies). On a semi-related note, I'm still surprised by how much I liked The Wolverine. I mean, it wasn't great and I'm still not a huge fan of Wolverine as a character, but I thought it was miles better than Origins and it was fun imo.

I'm so late, but yeah, I am down with this.

But then, I always thought Ororo was from the Nile Valley or parts east, and Wakanda was somewhere in southern Africa. Then people wanted the two of them to meet up somewhere in a jungle as kids, what? They both went to a third part of Africa just because? I mean, sure, they're both wanderers, but it's a huge continent, and she's from the semi-arid bit.
