But men do this too with their bags. And most of the time people are willing to remove their bags if someone asks.

I've honestly never seen a woman spread herself out the way men do all the time and refuse to stop when someone wants to sit in the seat next to them.

Really, transportation etiquette is an important discussion in general. Things like people standing in front of empty seats and refusing to move out of the way, people forcing their way on trains where there is no room and standing on other people/shoving them in the process, people not moving in to make room.

But there is a specific thing that men do with taking up more space that does partially probably have to do with subconscious sexism to a certain extent.

Bullshit. Men do it because it is more comfortable. They do it home alone, are they intimidating invisible women with their spread legs?

Also, MEN WILL CLOSE THEIR LEGS IF YOU ASK! Like, holy fucking shit, do yall just hope if you stare at them they will stop??

Not in my experience they won't. And it is more comfortable for women too, but you don't see us doing it in public most of the time. Because we understand that we aren't the only people on the train.

Yeah, I've had this riding in the back of the company van with coworkers. The guys will spread their legs way out and us girls have to squeeze our legs together to fit.

Also, it's not just obnoxious, it's also creepy. There's that weird feeling that they're doing it so that can rub legs with women. A man comes an sit's next to then, and suddenly the knees snap together. A woman comes and sit's next to them, and there is no way to sit where they're not touching you.
