I guess I agree with this when we are talking individuals. Not assimilating and then whining about not having assimilated is stupid.

That being said, this does not apply to immigrant communities. When assimilation becomes a problem at the level of social groups, this is an issue that needs to be handled by the host country.

And your rhetoric does rub me the wrong way. You can't compare the host country to someone's "house", or the host nation to the immigrants' "friend". That's not how these things work. Allowing people to immigrate is not a favour that needs to be repaid. And the host nation isn't an individual, it is a (non-integral, diverse) community.

It is also important to keep in mind that often people have difficulties assimilating because the citizens of the host country are too hostile towards them.
