I admit to having a really hard time with music in fiction in general, not just songfics. The only time it's worked for me was Spider Robinson (who was a musician who composed his own music, so did a good job of really making me feel like the song in the story was real), and some indy comic which somehow used visuals in such a way that I felt like I could HEAR the song.

It's a really hard thing to immerse me in, because it's really hard to convey music to me purely visually. I myself would never dare do it, except if I was going the abstract comics route.

When you see them set out in writing, most song lyrics don't have an awful lot of depth. Not to mention an awful lot of songs are incredibly repetitive... What may work wonderfully set to music, often doesn't work very well without it.

I guess that could why someone is more likely to appreciate a songfic if it uses a song they know and love, so they can "hear" it playing in their head, feel the emotions that the singer has poured into it, etc. Seems like it would be a big difference between this and just the flat, tuneless words on a screen - certainly for your average shallow pop song, which is what songfics mostly utilise.

Yeah, most of the time, I have NO IDEA what song is being used, so it's just repetitive lyrics that don't mean anything to me.

For me, it's often the same effect as if the fic were using constant references to other media--hilarious to people who KNOW the other media, just annoying to someone outside the clueboat.

Can you pick better names for you multi-people?

Rogan sort of bugs me because it sounds like Rogaine (hair growth product) and bogans (Australian white-trash equivalent).

Holy shit, that's rude as fuck.

Would you tell a person IRL that they should choose a new name for themselves because you personally don't like it?

I can, but then elephants would rain from the headspace, killing me instantly. So you see, to prevent system-wide destruction, I MUST keep this name, for the sake of us all. I'm sure you understand.
