A rant about budget cuts because I want to
People that champion a "simpler tax structure" are usually saying they want to eliminate and/or defund the IRS as part of their bullshit "small, less intrusive government" politics. (Wouldn't want to fund an agency to collect money for infrastructure, but God forbid a women want agency over her own body.) They've already severely underfunded the IRS during a crucial year. The year the agency is tasked in fully implementing the controversial and ever challenged Affordable Care Act, the IRS's budget is slashed so severely that Americans, largely uneducated on the scope of this law which effects every single tax return filed, have almost no where to turn to get help except for paid preparers. Taxpayer Assistant offices (already understaffed) are not preparing returns this year and real live customer service will be limited and/or not available. Americans unfamiliar with or unable to access self-help options (like IRS.gov) are going to have a difficult time this year. All the while, I'm sure, Obama will be blamed for the limitations and difficulties imposed by the Republican controlled Congress.
Anyway, the GOP is a collective piece of shit who like to fuck shit up and then blame others. The Bush Tax Cuts and the continuation of them ( passed only because whiny Republicans wouldn't pass a budget otherwise) contributed greatly to the US's income gap.
