Where Have You Been All My Life?

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2015-02-01 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Have I done one of these recently? I hope not! What is something (movie/game/tv/food/book/place to visit) that has that you have recently discovered but has been around for a while?

I watched the Evil Dead trilogy for the first time last night. I was going to just watch Evil Dead 2 for a podcast I listen to but figured I should watch the first one at least. I watched it and found it quite enjoyable.

The second one was amazing and really funny. I enjoyed it so much, I decided to watch Army of Darkness. Best decision of the week for me. That was the most campy, hilarious movie I have ever seen. I was in tears watching all the skeleton battle gags.

I can't believe it took me this long to watch those movies! I enjoyed Army of Darkness so much I may give it a rewatch tonight.

Thanks to watchcartoononline, I recently discovered Codename: Kids Next Door. It's amazing.

I've only ever seen Army of Darkness. I have plans to watch all 3 later this year.

The first one is way more horror than the rest. But the second one is excellent. I guess those first two movies were the biggest influence on Cabin in the Woods.

I really got into Star Trek about two years ago, and I still feel this way about it. I should have grown up with that shit. I did watch TNG when it was airing and loved it (although I was too young to understand a lot of it) but I don't know why it didn't make me want to check out TOS, or watch DS9 and Voyager later on.

Oh man, if there is one thing to get into, Star Trek is it. There is just so much Star Trek stuff out there, it can keep you busy for years!

Recently, the music of Nick Cave. It's so good and completely up my alley.

All-time answer for me is definitely X-Files though. I was always super into all of the spooky conspiracy stuff - I mean, I absolutely devoured book after book about it when I was a kid - and yet I watched it for some reason. And then I finally got into it just by checking out some DVDs from the library on a whime and I completely went nuts for it and it's one of my favorite shows ever.

OMG, I love Nick Cave's movie scores! The Road is one of my all time favorites.

Has X-Files aged well? I think it is on Netflix and I need something new to watch.

I'm always doing this. The last one was Babylon 5, though, which was a couple years ago.

Oh, wait, I've also been really into cooking shows lately. My most recent is Cutthroat Kitchen, which is in its 6th season.

While it isn't newly discovered per say because I did read Hobbit and LOTR as a kid, recently has been my first time actually reading Tolkien's other works and exploring the broader Middle Earth world.

I love Gordon Ramsey's kid shows. Cooking but without all the angry British yelling!

Man, I applaud your ability to read the other Tolkien stuff. I could not get through The Two Towers.

I finally got around to watching some Miyazaki films I hadn't seen yet despite being a huge animation nerd. How did I love The Cat Returns so much in middle school and then go so long without seeing Whisper of the Heart?

Have you seen all them now? I have only seen the big ones, sadly.

Actually, Cat Returns and Whisper of the Heart aren't by Miyazaki, though they ARE by Studio Ghibli! ^_^ And they are both awesome and I heart them.

I can't even think of anything. Uh, I watched the pilot for Political Animals the other day and really liked it and will eventually watch the rest. I don't think that's old enough to count, though.

Political Animals is a very good show! I just watched it for Sebastian Stan but really enjoyed all the other characters.

I finally read The Picture of Dorian Gray, and am now mildly obsessed. It's got so many things that I want, though I'm not too fond of the ending. I also watched the 2009 movie and that made the obsession worse.

Unfortunately, the fandom is mostly dead from what I've seen, and I have yet to find Henry/Dorian fic :/

I only got into Rush recently and they're one of my favorite bands now. (The embarrassing thing is watching Trailer Park Boys is what got me to check out Rush in the first place. Yup, pretty sure I'm doing it wrong.)
