I get freaked out about that sometimes, but I also think they're awesome, so it's more like the kind of freaked out you get when you're watching a good horror movie.

I actually have a weird fear in the other direction, of looking into microscopes. Microscopic pictures are fine. I'm just afraid of looking into the microscope myself, knowing what I'm going to be looking at but not what it'll look like on a microscopic level. It stems from when I was little and had a toy microscope, and looked at a strand of my hair under it. I was so freaked out that it looked like a bar, that it had WIDTH. We returned the microscope to the store after that because I didn't want to be tempted to use it again.
