I got the cover from my publisher for my novelette and I was so happy that it was PERFECT. After seeing so many terrible covers in the M/M genre I was seriously worried--and worried that I'd be too nice to want to say anything negative about it/ask them to change it if I didn't like it...

Congratulations on getting a publisher in the first place! I'm so jealous! :D

And that's great news about the cover. I have a friend who had the same worries when she was publishing her first book but the cover ended up perfect for her too. Maybe things are getting better?

Thank you! ^__^ I was so ecstatic to have them accept it, because I've been submitting stuff for a while now and while I'd never stop writing, constant rejections suck sometimes. XD

I can only imagine. I've still been too scared to submit anything. When faced with the choice to revise a piece so it will be good enough to be seen by other people or start a new imperfect first draft that only I will read, I tend to go for the second one. But I'm working on revision for the first time now and hopefully I'll work up the nerve to actually shop it around like I want to when I'm done.

Oh god, I know! I'm not exactly the same because I tend to reread everything I'm working on and edit/revise every time I open the damn document, but I swear that every five minutes I think, "I HAVE THE BEST IDEA EVER!! I NEED TO WRITE THIS!!"

I'm pretty sure I have about six or seven half-done stories because something shiny keeps distracting me. XD

Only six or seven? I envy your restraint. :p

Haha. Six or seven probably that I know of. XD I'm too scared to go digging through old files.

Congrats! It's always been one of the most exciting-yet-completely-nerve-wracking parts of the process for me. I don't know if I've been lucky with publishers or lucky with some amazing cover artists but so far I've always been really pleased with the final draft.

Does your publisher allow for your input at all? A couple of mine allow the author to be pretty involved in the design (content, style, color schemes, character specs etc.) so it was reassuring to know you wouldn't end up with anything too terrible.

Yeah they're pretty open with the process! You can pretty much start the ball rolling with things like, "I want something blue, with [x] font style, [y] type background" etc.

And then they'll mock something up for you and you can make suggestions about what you do and don't like, which is good too. I was really happy that it was pretty much spot on on the first try, the only thing I chose to 'change' was to make my name smaller so that the title had more impact.
