[Once Upon a Time]

The continued love for both of them is why I stopped watching...

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I had similar issues, not that I care that people love them but that the writers refused to ever move them forward or kill them off. Both Rumple and Regina were a constant back and forth between being fully evil or being "kind of" redeemed and it got tiring to see them get tied to EVERY fairy tale.

Rumple was my favorite in the beginning of the series because he was fun and I like the actor, but the show destroyed him (and related, I will never be happy with what the show did to Belle.)

As is often the case, the writers and producers are the worst villains of the show.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Bring on the wank...

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Meh. Rumple and Regina are very different characters. They're both villains, and they both do bad things, but their motives couldn't be more different. I have no problem with fans supporting one but not the other depending on which motive they find more sympathetic.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
They're both addicted to magic, though.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, someone should send in Willow from BTVS, stat. She can do an intervention, and they can all go live on a farm and get in touch with the earth and growing things, and look at yellow crayons.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
If Rumple can even come back to any kind of good side at this point, I will be damn interested in watching how they manage to pull it off, because every step he takes forward there's about a hundred back.

(I have given up on really actively disliking most of the characters on this show, I always manage to find something interesting about them and rooting for them in the end.)

(Except the Blue Fairy. Fuck the Blue Fairy. Stay in that hat forever)

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder how people would react if Rumple kept a girl as a forced sex slave like Regina did to Graham.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
THIS

She's a rapist. He isn't. I have no trouble defending him and condemning her.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
+1

(Anonymous) 2015-02-07 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yet they're both murderers...

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I only watch the the show for Robert Carlyle, so his character is where my sympathies lie.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
i hate them both, but ia

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
The only characters I legit HATE are Mary Margaret and David.

They have nothing major to atone for, and that — especially given the way this universe rolls — makes them seem ultra-sinister, like they SHOULD have something to hide, but no. They're just self-righteous and shit rainbows at everything and UGH booooooring.
Yeah, recently the show attempted to make Snow seem more interesting by claiming that she and Regina are somehow foils, but they're not. You can't retcon something that huge.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
David doesn't bother me, but I hate Snow. Which is a shame because I used to love her, but the writing for her has gone so far downhill since the Neverland arc that she's barely recognizable.

Hey, Snow, remember that daughter you were so desperate to reconnect with? The one you said was your number one priority? I guess not. Go ahead and ignore Emma until you need something from her.

Hey, Snow, remember that Marian died rather than tell Regina where to find you? I guess not. Go ahead and encourage Regina to sleep with her husband.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Well Snow did kill Cora and darkened her heart.

But I'm not sure what you're expecting. Some people are just good. I mean Emma doesn't exactly have much in the way of skeletons in her closet either.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I loathe Snowing with a passion. However, in my case, I legit hate the Blue Fairy (she's very shady), August, Henry (he was cute at first, but he got annoying later on) and Hook (he is an annoying sex pest who makes rape jokes and abuses women like Belle. I don't understand the need to make him good, so that Emma could have a love interest). I also hate Emma, since I pretty much find her character bland.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Snow and Regina are in no way foils, and I'm disgusted by the way the retcon was made to propel along that feces pile the writers are calling a "redemption arc" for Regina (it would be one thing if Snow were the only casualty of this effort, but sadly...). Snow has had plenty, plenty reasons and motivation to do so and not once has she pulled anything half as depraved as the shit Regina's done. She has nothing to atone for on the same level because she's actually a decent person.

And interesting as I've always found it that not being responsible for multiple murders/rapes/etc is what makes characters seem sinister or boring to the OUAT fandom, it pisses me off that the show itself is taking that stance. Nope nope nope, this is why I've dropped it.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
I gave up on the show at the end of S3, so I don't know what happened after that, but by that point I was kind of rooting more for Regina than Rumple. Mostly because at least Regina was consistently moving forwards, while Rumple kept taking one step forwards and then about fifteen giant steps back and it was incredibly frustrating. In season 1 and even bits of season 2, he was my favourite by a country mile, but later on he's basically a plot device instead of a character and his characterisation suffers so badly for it. Need a plot? Insert-horrible-Rumple-backstory-and-ensuing-vengeance-here. Rinse and repeat every half-season as required.

I know that's not the same as making a moral judgement on either of them, but in season 3, Regina's moral progession as opposed to Rumple's constant moral seesawing was at least less annoying. Maybe that got better in season 4? I don't know.

text: I’m rooting for the both of them, but I think the fans who try to defend one and condemn the other as a horrible person are hypocrites.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
They're both horrible people. But seeing as no one in the town wants to punish them at least I can wish for them to try turning over a new leaf and stop hurting people. Regina's doing a much better job than Gold.

Well, Regina is aware of how she's behaved and is trying to do better whereas Rumple keeps screwing up, so it's kind of unarguable that she's acting like a better person. I mean, I think there's reasons for that but still.
