I'm not bothered by it, mainly because this is movie-verse and Legolas and Gimli's friendship was never that well developed or important in the film. At the end of the day, film!Legolas and film!Gimli's most important relationship was with Aragorn, not each other.

While it may have started that way, by the end of the LOTR films the Legolas/Gimli bond was certainly just as strong. Perhaps stronger, because they spent so much time together developing a friendship rather than maintaining one that already existed.

Yeah movie Legolas and Gimli don't have that epic friendship feel.

I agree. The lack of Legolas & Gimli friendship in the film surprised me, but it went with the director's decision to play Gimli as a much more comic character and less as someone relatable to the audience. Rhys Davies is such a good actor, too, so it was kind of a pity, but I understand the reasoning. The hobbits aren't always in every scene to provide the lighter touch, and LoTR can be dark.
