Re: I gotta rant a little
(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 12:51 am (UTC)(link)I wish people actually respected bisexuality but especially online, it seems like the people who are most vocal in their support of bisexuality are just repping it to prop up the plausibility of their non-canon pairings.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 01:13 am (UTC)(link)Damn, I'm actually happy when people mention bisexuality as a shipping solution. That's better than most talk about it and what I see the most is people getting a character with straight canon and then writing them as having this one gay exception. Why not bi, writers? I wish more people wrote characters as bi in fandom.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 01:19 am (UTC)(link)Yes, you're right. I should have played closer attention, sorry.

Re: I gotta rant a little
(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 01:54 am (UTC)(link)This took a while for me to compile...
I've got my slice-of-life vampire series, where Larry is bi, has a wife emeritus, shared custody of a little girl, and his husband Luis. (I wanted to write about someone getting turned as a vampire AFTER the age of thirty.) They're in Going Home and Mao Xue Wang.
In Infinity Smashed, a coming-of-age sci-fi series, both Thomas and Raige are bi, and later are in a poly relationship with M.D., who takes whatever pronouns you give her. Pretty much everything in Book Four is about it, and the series is rigged so you can jump in there if you want. Tons of stories on that, but you can test out on The Next Adventure and Folie a Trois if you like.
In the same series, Comboy Bob Doshii is a middle-aged bi computer hacker who ends up pairing up with his gun-toting partner. They're like the Men In Black with a crappier budget. Pretty much ALL the PIN Chronicles is about them.
In my brokeass superheroes series, T is bi and has the bad habit of crushing on people unavailable, and Mig mostly likes women but has a relationship with a retired shapeshifter who ignores gender. They're both in 5 Times BTU Flunked Gender.
And then a bunch of one-shots involving pirates, ghosts, and mercenaries, which are all listed in this post here.
(But yeah, I've got something like twenty stories here. Hopefully you find one you like! And I've got a writeathon going, so you can prompt for more!)

(It has also made me sadly aware of how sadly lacking my bi girl characters are. For some reason, my female cast tends to slant ace. Fail, me.)

Re: I gotta rant a little
(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 01:33 am (UTC)(link)Not so much the mention that bisexuality can be an option, too, but when people start hardcore arguing that such-and-such character MUST be bisexual, if you think otherwise you're homophobic, it's TOTALLY CANON YOU GUISE! And then act like they're fighting some noble fight, when in reality all they give a shit about is their slash shipping.
And this has nothing to do with Supernatural at all. Nope.
Re: I gotta rant a little
(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 01:40 am (UTC)(link)LOL. That's pretty much what I'm talking about, yeah.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 01:53 am (UTC)(link)*You being general you, ofc, not you personally.
Re: I gotta rant a little
Honestly the times when I really want to scream, "Not everyone is out of the closet!" is when people insist that a character must be straight because they're only ever express attraction to the opposite sex. I wouldn't claim there's evidence that they're gay or bi or whatever, but it insist that they're straight ignores the reality of what being anything other than straight is like for a lot of people.
I just get really annoyed at people insisting that a character (or occasionally a real historical person, which really pisses me off when they ignore what the person said about themselves) must be a certain orientation.
Which is getting off topic from the bi issue, so my apologies.
Re: I gotta rant a little
(Anonymous) 2015-02-03 02:18 am (UTC)(link)That's very true and an excellent point.
Also, I think all of this is still relevant to the bi issue, because of all the assumptions and misconceptions, and the idea that bisexuality doesn't really exist. A lot of people will insist a character that could be bi must be one or the other, just as people will insist a character that could be gay must be straight. And there are a lot of bi people, like me, who aren't open about it and are doing the whole "passing" thing.
Honestly, whether a person is bi, gay, or lesbian, not being straight can be way more complicated than it should be and than a lot of straight people realize.

Then I was like fuck it; I'll write how I want to write because it's not like the rest of the world is overflowing with bisexual representation anyway.
