Okay, so you weren't going for comic effect, you just don't know a whole lot about food. What's considered a delicacy is pretty subjective and varies from culture to culture. Sure, some of them don't appeal to everyone, but you can say that about ANY food, not just what you consider to be exotic and inedible. That's why it's silly to make blanket statements about how delicacies taste/smell bad. You're sort of going for a reverse snobbery... I can understand the motivation, but it doesn't really work on a logical level.

Yeah, I was going for comedic effect actually. Borne out of experience mostly, so I'm not gonna make excuses for being critical about ridiculous cultural mores.

It's not about cultural mores, though? It's about the subjectivity of peoples' tastes and what they perceive as delicious. There are plenty of people who aren't French, yet still enjoy foie gras. That's because it's nothing to do with culture and everything to do with the fact that different people like different things.

Again, which is why it's silly to dismiss all delicacies as bullshit nonsense just because you didn't ilke them.
