I didn't realize people were so PASSIONATE about subtitles. I mean, sure, I like them, since my hearing's a little bad, but I know other people who just can't read and watch at the same time. It just doesn't seem worth making a huge fuss over.

As much as I enjoyed the humor of this novel, I was bugged by the fact the only female characters were defined by their male counterparts. (I try not to hold it against Scalzi, who is always in support of feminism.... but part of me thinks this book was written before he became more socially aware.)

I'm the opposite with one particular character. I relate to him a lot. I'm super attracted to the character I usually pair him with. I'm dominant. And yet I hate reading fics where this character is anything but submissive.

I'm like this with Jewish celebrities; if they have had an even remotely religious upbringing I feel an odd kinship. My family surfed the Orthodox Community, The Reform...now we're Just Jewish. It's a hard lifestyle to keep up.

Surely there have to be some kind of concrete things you can say that aren't just tearing the whole fic down? Maybe just focus on one aspect and try to get her to improve that.
