What makes holes strech out (if you mean where the lobe gets basically 'cut' and not streched by thicker earrings meant to do so) is really heavy dangly earring worn over a long period of time. So no worries there.
It sounds like you might have got a thicker gauge than normal (the earrings you're describing sounds like captive ball rings? I might be reading that wrong) It doesn't really matter in the long run though, when you switch them for smaller ones your holes will end up adjusting to those. I've switched between 14-16 and normal earrings a lot during my teens and now I honnestly couldn't put a 14 gauge earring without a lot of pain and blood.
