I can't mesure how much they differ from the source. They're both different and don't make me think about the books. Come to think about it, book!SH is not that fleshed out. An hawk like nose, long fingers, very bored from time to time, doesn't eat during cases, likes concerts, likes Watson...
I feel that I know more about Watson than Holmes from books. Watson gets the short stick in tv interpretations anyway. Like, Rathbone, ok, he's somewhat canon like, but Watson - lol. BBC John is too cutting. Soviet Watson is the most canon like, I guess. And the most canon Holmes is Young SH.

Anyway OP why no RDJ version? Or is it too AU to even conteplate closiness to the books? :D
