I hate how people lump all "classics" together like they're a genre. They're NOT.

Unless you seriously think that Pride and Prejudice can be put in the same category as Beowulf... Yeah, no.

There is a lot of variety in what we call "classics".

Pretty much. And some classics are terrible books, but they have some historical significance which makes them worthwhile to scholars. You wouldn't want to actually read them otherwise.
