Pairings where the characters like each other but are on 'opposite sides'

Eg. Aziraphale/Crowley or Professor X/Magneto. Especially good if there's angst!

Opposing factions + angst?

Anything with Thassarian and Koltira from World of Warcraft.

A novel: The Flight of the Heron by DK Broster. Not available in ebook format, unfortunately, but there are plenty of s-h copies available. 1745 Scotland, Jacobite chieftain and British Army officer. They develop an intense friendship and there's angst aplenty which dials up to 111 at the end.

You could also try Kidnapped by RL Stevenson - same setting but a slightly denser read.

A film, Ice Cold in Alex, set in the Desert War of WW2. A small group of people try to get from Tobruk to Alexandria through all sorts of perils, internal to the group as well as external.
