A mention of rape is not nearly the same thing as seeing actual rape occur.

The amount of rape in the books is seriously exaggerated here. There's lots of smut but it's consensual.

There's lots of consensual smut in the show as well. That's not really the issue.

However, I don't really know if one should claim to speak for everyone about what kind of information might be affective- if mentions or depictions of rape are a problem, then steer clear of the books.

If graphic depictions of rape are the issue, then it's probably about equal and I wouldn't really advise someone with a serious problem to consume either unless they were absolutely certain they were ready for it.
