IIRC (and don't bet money on this), somewhere on tumblr it came up that Miyazaki said that the anime industry needs to die because basically a lot of assholes and creepers are making it.

Cue epic self-righteous indignation.

I honestly was pretty far removed from it, so may very well be wrong on a lot of the info. It didn't anger me so much, but then again, I'm pretty used to the old guard not wanting anything to do with the new stuff, and a lot of what I've heard about the anime industry seems to parallel the mainstream US comics industry. And don't get me wrong, I love comics, but there are some parts of it that really need to die.
