Femslash February

(Anonymous) 2015-02-07 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Anybody participating? Seen anything worth sharing? Any ships or characters you wish were getting more attention?

I'm kinda disappointed so far by the lack of variety, tbh. It seems like it's almost all Superwholock and Teen Wolf. Maybe it's just because I don't like any of those shows that they seem so prominent, though. I have seen a few image sets for my comic book OTP (Storm/Jean Grey), so that's cool. I'd really like to see more obscure stuff, stuff I wouldn't think to look for myself. I remember someone posting a School of Rock fic last year, for instance.

I'm working on some fanfic from Femslash Feb but I haven't been looking a lot at what other people are putting out, whoops. I'm not surprised its mostly big live action fandoms though, I mean Superwholock and TW and shows like that dominate a bunch of fan things just in general.

I have had half an idea swirling around in my head for a while that would be good for Femslash February, but considering I have written one (600 word) fic in the last two years, I doubt I will have it in any sort of posting shape by the end of the month.

Eh, not really interested. In most of the fandoms I follow, most of the "pairs" are just two ladies smashed together just cause, not really any effort into why they'd be a good pair.

It just feels so shallow.

And I especially feel that way about Lady Liadrin/Yrel in the WoW fandom right now. I played through the entire Alliance story line in Draenor and there's NOTHING to support that except they they are both paladins. Unless there's something on the Horde side that I have yet to see, I just can't get behind it. Hell, the Anduin/Garrosh or Varian/Garrosh thing at least has some hate sex basis for it (not that i ship those. i find it disturbing at best and completely disgusting at worst).

????

Monster High is also very guilty of this. I have a few pairs myself, but they at least have some kind of interaction, like, oh I dunno, actually being friends?

I get you. I feel the same about pairing two dudes in a thing just for the sake of having m/m (although this can also lead into the "anything with white dick" thing when there are other... subjectively better options?).

But on the other hand, I don't have to ship a crack pair to enjoy it. Even Ginny/Pansy will work for me as long as the writer can pitch and run with it, no matter how OC the characters can come across for it to happen.

I never think to look (And can't write myself), but I hope Kahlan/Cara and Kate/America Chavez get fic! (Ooo, also Peggy and Angie!)

I actually have seen some Amerikate and Peggy/Angie this year, but mostly short stuff. I was really surprised by how little there is since both those ships seem to be fairly popular in their own fandoms. I guess I can see how Amerikate might have a "been done" vibe to it by now, but Peggy/Angie is still fresh.

Ooo, I'll have to check it out! I'm kind of surprised that America/Kate is so popular since it was only hinted at (If you could call it that) near the end of the new YA run, but I'm glad; they're cute.

I thought Peggy/Angie would take off for sure!

Who gets the most fic in TW fandom? (I'm going to assume Allison/Lydia?)

Sorry for the super-late reply, I kinda forgot about this thread ;>_>

I was also pleasantly surprised by how popular Amerikate turned out to be! Though I really do wish they'd had more interaction during Young Avengers. They had some good banter going in that last issue, which is what took me from "it could be cute" to "yes, I ship it" even before the tease at the end (which I honestly could have done without, if only to avoid the fandumb).

Honestly, I'm not sure what Teen Wolf ships are getting the most attention, not being a fan myself. I only know there's been so much because of the tags and headers. I do know that I've seen that ship tagged, but I wouldn't be able to give a comparison.

That's okay! Thanks for mentioning Femslash February at any rate.

Ah, if it's the “Kate is bi in canon!” bit then I agree. No she isn't, dudes. (Unless I've missed something in the latest issues of Hawkeye.) I prefer that interpretation as well, but I don't need it to be canon.

Re: Femslash February

(Anonymous) 2015-02-07 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome :) I hope you find something you like, if you check it out.

Not only the "Kate is bi in canon!" thing, but also the haters complaining that the only reason anyone ships Amerikate is because of that line and how it disrespects Kate's self-identity as straight and shows America as sexually overaggressive. I mean, many shippers do run with that line (evidenced by the "it's canon!" sort) and jump right past Kate-as-questioning into Kate-as-bi, but those shippers also tend to set their works after at least a brief timeskip. I can hardly blame people for wanting to get to the point, so to speak, when a) coming outs and the like have become a tired trope for queer stories at this point and b) Kate has already had a subplot about having trouble coming to terms with having feelings for someone.

I don't understand haters... You don't get the ship, okay; I don't get plenty of ships but choose to spend my time doing things I actually enjoy. I've been in fandom too long to get worked up about non-canon ships or AU's; that shit is always going to exist, and if you have a problem with a non-canon ship then why wouldn't you get angry about everything else that was changed too? (It's too much effort! What does it matter anyway?)

So idk, but at least some folks are enjoying themselves.

I don't think I'd mind Kate skipping straight to bisexuality too much. I'd much rather her feelings be explored even if it isn't some long, drawn out realization (I get that's not for everyone, and it can be frustrating at times), but people can write what they want.

Re: Femslash February

(Anonymous) 2015-02-07 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, same. I love when fics actually take the time to explore her feelings and her coming to terms with them-- heck, even just an "oh, hey, I'm bi-- that's interesting" sort of thing is fine-- and I'd love to see more like that. But, as you say, people can write what they like. And if what people like to write is Kate and America going on cute dates, being a Battle Couple, taking care of each other after missions and having sex, I've got no beef at all with that.

I didn't know that was a thing, but now that you mention it, there were a few more posts than usual in the Frozen Swan (Once Upon a Time) tag...maybe this is the motivation I need to finally write some fic for my "cute blonde girlfriends" ship.

Re: Femslash February

(Anonymous) 2015-02-07 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
Every year I mean to participate, but I write at a glacial pace so I just never finish anything in time. :( I should just start preparing fics in advance so I can post them at an appropriately festive time, but that somehow feels like cheating.

Re: Femslash February

(Anonymous) 2015-02-07 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
I meant to write fics in January to have them ready to post this year, cheating or not. Never actually got around to it, though, go figure.

Re: Femslash February

(Anonymous) 2015-02-07 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
Lmao, I'm sure that's about how well it'd go for me too if I made the attempt to prepare. :P It took me 6+ months to finish the last fic I wrote for FF, and that was actually pretty quick for me.
