I never really quite understood the hype with Taylor Swift. I also agree "blank space" is not a musical breakthrough. I;m sure I could find others artists/musicians that have approached this subject in a deeper and more musically pleasing (to me) way. Then again, it's a big deal because all the chil'rens listen to her. Ok.

As far as fanmixes go---do people normally put hip-hop in their fanmixes? Because as I write my fic, and I'm developing a "soundtrack" (yes, roll your eyes, I did too) for it, and there is some hip hop up in there...is this a common or not so common thing? I've mostly seen indie/alt music in mixes.

My only problem with Taylor Swift is that she can't carry a tune without significant electronic assistance (see: Almost every live Taylor Swift performance ever). However, that's hardly unique to her, and doesn't account for all the shit that's thrown her way.
