Posting in LJ communities

(Anonymous) 2015-02-07 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Hey! So I'm writing a fic, and I've cross posted it in some communities on LJ. Does anyone recommend posting to each community as I update? Or never post again and hope the reader just follows my writing?

Essentially, what's the decorum for this situation?

I would base it on how active the comm is. If it is mostly dead these days, it might look weird if the last ten posts were all from your one fic. However, if the comms in question see activity in between your updates, and especially if you have had positive reactions from members of that community, I would say go ahead and give updates.

Go by how active the com is and how often you update. If every post on the front page is going to be your fic, only post every few chapters.

Agreed with the previous comments. If the comm is very active with lots of regular posts, then maybe. But if it's fairly quiet and you're writing a long fic... *sigh* I don't know, maybe it's just me when I roll my eyes when people spam a community with their updates. ESPECIALLY if they're just linking to another archive site that has its own update/notification system. If I want to get updates for a fic, I'll sign up for them on FFnet or AO3 or whatever, crossposting it everywhere just makes me less likely to read it.
