Aw man, those prolonged almost-rape scenes with Sansa, Brienne, and Theon, that scene where Ros and that whore get beaten, those scenes where Dany gets graphically raped, that other scene where Cersei gets raped, that Craster's keep scene where they hired porn stars to get raped on screen, tits bouncing and all, for an entire scene. Never mind how every other episode features an awkward forced sex scene that's used to cheaply grab attention because the rest of the show is so damn shallow.

But no, the show is completely not-edgy not-watered down shit, it's just that SJW boogeyman at work again.

I never said anything about sjw. I just think that on [tumblr] (maybe on other sites, too) content discussions take off as self-serving memes that don't much reflect anything about the show anymore. and almost all the examples you've brought up there are, in their turn, examples thereof. Oh the wank we had with that Dany rape alone... it was so much better in the books where it was true!love with superlover-drogo!!

Seriously, I get if you don't like the show, and I gt if you're a little sensitive to certain depictions of violence, but "the show is shit" I've only heard from people who are either stupid (like, they watch the show and don't listen to the dialogue, and only ever pay attention when *TITS*), or jerks.

I'm sorry, but I find the show insulting at this point. Every episode follows the same formula: pointless talking with try-hard deep "gib Emmy ploz" dialogue, pointless talking, obligatory forced sex scene, pointless talking with tits in the background, action scene, something actually happens at the last minute, the end. There's no even flow, the pacing is wonky, they waste time on parts that I know are inconsequential (wasting screen time building up Talisa and Ros and Robb and Shae for nothing? Tossing aside canon characters in favor of OC bullshit? Introducing Jojen rather late then killing him off in a hilariously awkward scene? That fucking beetle scene? The entire Podrick "joke"? Every Theon scene in S3? Practically every sex scene? the list goes on) and water down the characters immensely. I honestly don't know how anyone could take it seriously, it's plain as day they throw in tits to grab attention because they think their audience is that stupid and are pandering to the lowest common denominator. Maybe people who think the show is shit aren't stupid, but rather have seen actual quality shows. Hell, there are better shows on the same network.

The reason this is a touchy subject for me is because the show could have been so much more. I liked it at some point. It was genuinely good in the first season but it's been steadily going off the rails. It's almost like a bait and switch.

The books are awful in regards to overabundant rape too, won't even argue that. I've retroactively begun to dislike the books as well.

well, you're obviously neither stupid, nor a jerk. I get that there are pacing issues what with the whole format and tons of settings. that hasn't however, managed to turn me off to it because I still see some great writing and character development (a term i usually hate) there.
Take the supposed "racism" for instance (I wasn't only adressing the rape controvery around the show. I get that there are people who just can't watch these things) - the whole thing mostly went off with Danys "White Queen in a brown mass of subjects"-scene. And then, next season - bam! we get to see the reason behind it. Her Crowdsurfing thing served as a visualization of how SHE SEES HERSELF as a white savior, not how we're supposed to believe that she *is* one. And there was a lot of these clever, long planned motifs even within the latest season that you think has gone off the rails.
From my experience with people who criticise the show, people who read the books tend to overlook some of these things. They also tend to easily be offendecd by changes, that may have actually made the story better. Like Merging Tyrions first wife with Shae and thus giving him a full-blown Othello plot. Also something people constantly whine about instead of seing the possibilities.
