For life, some I grow apart from, others don't want to be my friend anymore. But in general the close friendships I have I am quite sure will last until we are in the old peoples homes annoying the poor nurses to death.

Until they make it obvious that they want to ditch me - almost without exceptions. So far I have only had one friend with whom I simply fell out of touch, but I think my definition of "friendship" was more loose back when we befriended each other.

I also have a couple of people whom I admire and have deep affection for, but to whom I don't really talk. I suppose I don't count them as "friends", though - our hierarchical positions are too different.

Most of my friends I've known since primary or secondary school which is now 10-15 years ago now. Then there's some from upper secondary and university in addition to that.

The only friend I've really 'lost' that I can remember is one from upper secondary who just for whatever reason just stopped talking to everyone (and not in a depression just withdrawing from everyone kind of way, but just dropped us all and moved on with her life). I've been thinking about her a lot recently...

I don't call people a friend easily though, and for me it takes a lot of time and effort to go from calling someone an acquaintance to a friend (more than most I think), so the people I call friends I really hold on to.

They generally escape the cage I keep them in within the year. :(

But really, it depends on the friend. Most I still talk to occasionally on FB.

For life so far. We'll see if it stays that way. Let's hope.

One for like half my life (Though we're growing apart and the word barely fits anymore), another for... God, Idek, maybe 12 years? I tend to stay friends with people as long as they'll have me, or until we grow apart.

I've also had a few friendships that I didn't feel were healthy so I distanced myself from them, and we lost contact.

Anywhere from a few weeks to twenty years.

Seems to vary depending in the person. Sometimes you grow apart.

But as someone who used to move a lot, proximity matters fuckloads so I'm gonna say 3-4 years.

this varies sooo much. of the two friends I'd call my closest right now, one I've been friends with since I was about 20 (so four years) and the other since I was nine (about fifteen years, which is more than half of my life). Most of the other friends I've had recently have come and gone more quickly for various reasons. I had friends when I was still in middle/high school who lasted a lot longer but it sort of makes sense considering how much time you'd spend in the same places in those environments.

I guess you just meet relatively few people with whom you have that particular connection that lasts through distance, busyness, major life changes, etc.

Until they begin to smell and grow mold. Then it's best to throw them out and buy some new ones. Friends keep better if you store them in a dry area away from direct sunlight.

Enh, depends how you define 'friend.' For us, offline and online friends are very amorphous categories, so we'll be friends with someone online, move to their area and become offline friends, then move and be online again.

That said, we pretty much lost ALL our friends after coming out. We have two or three stalwarts who survived the entire process.

I find it best and healthiest to have a plan to escape everyone I meet. It's just the safest way to run my life. That said, I have a lot of friends who are total blessings in my life, and I hope to continue my association with them, but I'll survive if they end.

I don't keep friends. I'm too socially awkward and everyone goes away in a couple of years top.

It depends on the person, really.
