Oh my gods, OP, I feel you so hard. We differ in the sense that I don't refuse to watch movies that do this, but it definitely bothers me.

I also, incidentally, get very annoyed when I'm reading a piece of writing set in the late 1800s/very early 1900s and female characters are described as wearing "bras and panties" and/or male characters are described as wearing "boxers." Nothing gets on my nerves quite the way inaccurate period underwear does, which...I suppose is pretty weird.

BUT YES! Accuracy in make-up and costuming! Very important.

They recently found 14th century Austrian bras, which is very cool!

I saw something about that in Piecework. It was surprising how modern they looked! (I mean, not super modern with elastic or underwires, but still very much a "bra" shape as opposed to a vest or corset.) I loved the bit about how wearing underwear that closed in the crotch was considered morally dubious back then! Like, you were a lady of questionable virtue if you covered your crotch under your skirts. I think wearing something that covered just the breasts (as opposed to a full shift or something) was also not the done thing at the time, so finding old bras and panties walled up in... what was is, a castle? Abbey? is surprising.

That is pretty neat, anon! I'll have to look into that.
