Talk to them! I know it can be super-hard and frankly straight-up terrifying, but you might get an "OH MY GOD I THOUGHT I WAS ALONE" out of them.

I'm *terrible* at this stuff personally, so I know it's difficult. But sometimes it can be so worth it.

Very true. I was shy about approaching fellow fans for years, but plucking up the courage to talk to someone who shares your passion can be so worth it.

I want to agree but at the same time I know it isn't always easy. It can definitely be worth it though! (You might make a new friend! Or at least have a stimulating conversation.)

That's exactly how I'd feel if someone began talking to me about one of my obscure fandoms! I'd love having someone to discuss things with!

This. For a long time I was really super shy but when I got into a much, much smaller fandom than what I had previously been in, I started really making an effort to talk to people and it paid off.

Geez, I could have made this secret myself. I feel like mostly all of my fandoms are obscure and inactive.

I tend to do the same, I know is wrong but I'm way too shy and self conscious to make a move.

I relate, and, honestly? Talking to them is amazing. If you're awkward, think of something specific to say about what they wrote, instead of just "omg I love X too!" That way you can start a conversation.

Text: I’m part of a small and obscure fandom that doesn’t get a lot of talk anymore. I’ve scoured the internet for conversations, no matter how old, just for the excitement of seeing people talk about the fandom and characters.

When I find a fan who has become active again, I will stalk their blog or website to see what they say, but I won’t talk to them unless they talk to me first. I am so shy!

You are not alone, OP. Nearly-inactive fandoms are nervewracking because any activity in them is so visible.

I constantly have to push myself to say hello. The problem is, half the time the other person doesn't say hello back or nothing more comes of it and I feel like an idiot. At least I tried.

I go through periods of lurking, though. Like for years and years sometimes. Eventually it's so lonely that I make myself try again.
