Talk to them! I know it can be super-hard and frankly straight-up terrifying, but you might get an "OH MY GOD I THOUGHT I WAS ALONE" out of them.

I'm *terrible* at this stuff personally, so I know it's difficult. But sometimes it can be so worth it.

I read this book several years ago! I'm so surprised to see it on here.

I agree about the gaslighting thing. I haven't seen the old movie that people got the word "gaslighting" from, so when I heard about the concept, this book was the first thing I thought of.

I have another book by this author, called Melbury Square, but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Have you read that?

I agree but there's a lot of things that I would do differently if I was the one trying to make an American Sherlock Holmes TV series, and ultimately it's probably for the best that I'm not.

Nah, I understand. There was this one shit-tastic MCU fic series on AO3 that was hugely popular. I have no idea why because it was terrible. It didn't help that the stories were long and had like 8 parts so it was always there.

I think you're right. The math surrounding his age doesn't line up for his supposed parentage, and his capabilities in the game are equal to those of the game constructs, players, and Guardians even though he's supposedly a natural-born human (of Guardian lineage?). There's something bizarre about him even by Homestuck standards.

Unless you're absolutely freaking amazing at writing (which I'm not saying you're not, of course), chances are your works aren't going to be plagiarised. I have been in a lot of fandoms for old literary canon sources, and in my experience they are:

1) small. There's simply not enough of a fanbase to inspire interest sufficient for someone to plagiarise fanfiction.

2) obscure. Unscrupulous people who make money by publishing dubious stuff don't lurk there. They're too busy writing god awful porn.

I can maybe see students turning your work in as homework, but honestly?? Why would the fact that some random lazy twenty-something person used your fanfic to get one "A" for their course disturb you so much that you wouldn't want to write any fanfic at all? This seems terribly disproportional.

Additionally, newbies (and, let's be honest, many of the more experienced writers, too) tend do drastically overestimate their plot bunnies' potential and their writing.
