I haven't seen this, but I've read about it and about him and can't disagree that he brought it on himself. Not that he deserved it, because I don't think anyone deserves that kind of death, but he had to make a lot of easily avoidable mistakes and have a pretty specific and obnoxious mindset to end up like he did. It's not far off from Timothy Treadwell, who got a very warts-and-all treatment in Grizzly Man, but that's the difference between a laudatory biopic and a brutally honest Werner Herzog documentary, I guess. When you love nature and wild animals without respecting and fearing their ability to kill the fuck out of you at any time, you tend to die in highly unpleasant ways.

Treadwell immediately came to my mind, too. If anything, he was an even more egregious case of being killed through his own stupidity, and he got his girlfriend killed as well.
