I used to be bullied by rich spoiled brats. I wouldn't say any of them deserved to die. Unless you're leaving out something about beating his wife or joining a terrorist group, I'd rather not play along with this attitude.

no one's saying he was a morally bad person who deserved to die. that's not the debate. the debate is whether he was a noble idealist who died tragically and heroically (no) or whether he was an idiot who died because he had no idea how to survive in the wilderness and ignored numerous warnings (yes, it's this, this is correct).

are you at all familiar with the source material? serious question, not trying to be catty

I'd be completely indifferent about the guy, except there are so many nitwits who idolize him. It's just stupid and dangerous.

Saying someone died as a result of their own actions and refusal to listen to sense isn't the same thing as saying they deserved to die. "B is a direct consequence of A" doesn't carry any moral weight to it. It's just a statement of fact.

Fair enough. I guess I just don't like how this secret is worded--all that "I judge you" and stuff. I can judge you right back, dude! (Or dudette, as appropriate.)
