Well, I know most of what I want to do. I just got to make lists, figure out how much time/money they will take, and then figure out how many days in each place I'll need to stay.

If you need any help, let me know. I live in the suburbs of NYC and I've been to DC many times.

Oh thanks! I am going to save this comment so I can go back to it when I start making more definite plans. Right now, I am just trying to figure out hotels that don't cost an arm and a leg but won't be in a scary part of town. Granted, every part is scary to me. :P

What's your budget for a hotel room approximately? I can hopefully narrow it down if there's specific things you want to see/do. Personally, I'd say if you want to get the most out of your stay, I'd stay in Manhattan. I like Chelsea/Union Square area, but that's just me. Seriously, feel free to pick my brain.

If you're not planning on a specific event, I'd recommend late April/May or September/October. Those are my favorite walking around the city times. Tribeca Film Festival is in April every year and fairly reasonably priced. (we also ended up getting 5 free movie tickets last year just by waiting in line)

Yeah, I plan on going in early May. Cheapest time to fly plus supposedly pretty good weather.

Well, I know hotels are not cheap but I would like to stay around $300 a night. Cheaper the better as long as the hotel is clean and in a safe area. The only thing for sure I know I will be seeing is Lion King on Broadway in NYC. Basically the whole reason this idea started. There are various museums I want to see as well. I'll try and get a list of stuff by Friday!

In DC, I want to go to the National Zoo and Museum of Natural History.

Ok, that's a completely reasonable budget for May and honestly, a quick peek at expedia, I can help you find a fairly reasonable one. And definitely look at the amenities!

I don't normally stay at hotels in NYC (I live close enough to go home at any point or I have friends who I will crash with that live 10 minutes from the city) but a friend of mine stayed at this really quaint boutique hotel in Chelsea with a rooftop terrace with a view of the Empire State Building. It was great because we went to Union Square earlier and bought some great wine and sat up there in the view of the Empire State Building.

I lucked out and found a hotel in DC for $114/night so it will be much cheaper than NYC.

When you really start planning things, I can give more ideas (walk past the New York Public Library because of Ghostbusters. Check out Midtown Comics. Visit the Strand. See Soho and visit three of my favorite chocolate stores. Ride the Staten Island Ferry.)

I am assuming this is shorty still? Is the other anon you?

These are some places I have down so far for NYC.
-Jewish Heritage Museum
-Museum of Moving Image
-American Museum of Natural History
-Bronx Zoo
-Minskoff Theatre (Lion King showing)

Any suggestions for other places to go would be awesome. I am making a list and mapping them out on Google maps as well. Also, hotel suggestions. I think I will eventually post about this on general chat on F!S to get more ideas as well.

If you want to be in walking distance to Times Square, and you don't care if the room is pretty basic, you might try the Herald Square Hotel.

I looked it up! It doesn't look bad. Is this short or a different anon?

Different anon. I stayed there about 10 years ago when my major criteria were "cheap for NYC, private bathroom and not in a murder zone," but it's also super convenient to everything as long as you're not hoping free breakfast, a pool, etc.

I PM'd you back! At least, I think it is you (it was anon).
