If you have a decent pattern for it, even if you can't find anybody to sew, worst case you can hot glue the seams. If it's done carefully the result won't be that bad (and definitely better than not having a robe at all!).
But seriously, making a robe is extremely easy :) you should definitely try to make it happen!

I will be going to the con - I've been lecturing at cons for the past few years. So at least that will be fun.
