Re: Favorite TV/Film Scenes H50 Spoilers for 5x04

I can't find a link to it, but a scene that I've really liked recently was from Hawaii Five-0 from the episode Ka No'eau. H50 can be pretty hit and miss sometimes (I say this as someone who loves the show), but every so often they'll have an episode or a scene that really works for me. This one in particular came at the end of the episode and tied up the whole "Danny's brother is being held hostage by a drug lord" storyline that was set-up at the beginning of the season. I think everyone pretty much guessed that Danny's brother would turn up dead, but it still packed a punch. The direction and the acting worked really well in it; when Reyes told his men to bring the brother to Danny and they wheeled in a barrel instead, you could really see the anguish on Danny's face as he realized that his brother had been dead the whole time. I don't think the scene would have worked half as well if they had showed his actual dead body. The implication that his body had been broken and stuffed into a metal barrel like garbage added an extra layer of awfulness to the whole thing and left more of an impact. Another part I really liked is that the part where Danny and Steve wrestle weapons away from Reye's body guards and then shoot them after they were dragged upstairs wasn't actually shown to the audience (because they've done things like that plenty of times before. We don't really need to explicitly see their badassery) and instead they chose to focus the camera on Reyes (still downstairs) so we could see him slowly realize that his men were dying and come to terms with how fucked he was. lol I've probably rambled about this scene enough, but basically I really liked it and Scott Caan's facial expressions and grief-rampage really sold me on it.

Another one I really liked recently was from the last episode of Enlisted. I'm still sad that the show was cancelled, but I think the last episode felt like a really good ending nonetheless and the last scene was gorgeous. The song choice worked really well and it was very emotional (ngl, I cried a lot) without being too cheesy or preachy when everyone told Pete that they would be there for him as he dealt with his PTSD. The fact that Lori Loughlin actually showed up in the end was great too

God yea, IA about that Hawaii 5-0 scene. (It was shocking and fucked up in a way no other scene so far has been.)

Occasionally there's some brilliance with H50, and when they do it right they do it right. (Like that scene where Danny has a bomb strapped to his chest and he's telling Steve to leave because if he dies Grace will need someone, but Steve won't, then Steve has that look on his face when they hug afterward. It's so devastating. Plus that scene in the episode where Steve and Danny are trapped under a collapsed building and Danny is telling Steve about how when he was young, if his parents were late coming home he would imagine they had got into a car-wreck and were dead. And he'd pay that if only one of them survived it would be his mom, because he loved his dad but couldn't live without his mom. This show hits hard sometimes.)

All of those scenes are golden. They're definitely some of my favorites in the series and waiting for scenes like that to show up is why I don't mind getting through the "meh" episodes. 5x7 (the episode where Steve is drugged and hallucinates about a better timeline where his father is still alive) also had some really good scenes imo. The fact that in his imagination Danny is the one to save his father (even though, in reality, he didn't know Danny before his dad was murdered) was heartbreaking and sweet at the same time because it really said a lot for how highly Steve thinks about Danny. The part at the end where he was still partly stuck in his hallucination and thought that his father really was alive was just...ouch.

Sidenote: Seeing some of your McDanno reblogs on my tumblr dash got me back into the show again btw. Thanks!

Same. Once in a while I'll get behind, but I'll always eventually catch back up; the great moments are worth slogging through the mediocre for.

Steve's hallucination episode was really good! I thought Danny's role in that one was adorable, too; he got to save the day, he wasn't argumentative at all, etc (lmao). It was fun to see Danny in a different light and awful seeing Steve believe (even for a moment) that he still had his father. The team being there for him made it a bit better, but what a cruel moment that was.

Awww! That's so cool! I don't feel like I reblog them much at all, but I do think to check the tag now and then; I should do it more often if it's going to have this kind of effect. (They have so many excellent moments together though! Jesus, the number of times the L word has been uttered between these two just in the last season is baffling.)

Yeah, it's pretty great! It's awesome because I ship them like crazy, but the non-shipper part of me also likes it when dudes aren't afraid to be affectionate with each other and freely tell their friends how much they care about them. A lot of guys in tv shows will act all sheepish when they tell their buddy that they love them but Steve and Danny are like "what the hell ever, I love you man" all the time. It's the best

Exactly. The shipper in me loves it, but even outside of shipping the fact that they're so comforable with each other now that they can easily say "I love you" without it becoming a big deal just warms my heart. They adore each other so much; it's nice to see two men on tv who don't shy away from their affection.

(Though to be fair, Danny has had some trouble getting the words out in the past, but he's clearly beyond that now.)
