Favorite TV/Film Scenes

(Anonymous) 2015-02-09 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I think we all have those television or movie scenes that have really stuck with us, whether it's due to the directing, writing, acting, score or all of the above. What are some of your favorite scenes? It doesn't even have to be a scene from your favorite movie or tv show (even some bad shows will occasionally have a scene where everything just falls together and for one shining moment, the show is awesome)

That's some very nice imagery. I'm not even remotely familiar with the series, but I like the way this is drawn.

Ohh. This looks very cool. It's a powerful line. And in the original context, the impact must be all the greater.

That freaking final speech from The King's Speech with Rush and Firth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fY3BOcjAnw

I blame a friend who sold me on the film. This is just... beautiful.

Unfortunately, no one ever uploaded the farewell scene from Murder Rooms: The White Knight Stratagem to YT, but few things can beat this one in my eyes. THE WAY THEY KEEP STARING AT EACH OTHER.

The bit of the Granada REDH where Brett!Holmes jumps over the couch ^__^ On that note, the bit where they keep cracking up:

And lots more of them, of course. I have a huge fondness for many TV/film scenes.

I love that 3 of us (so far!) have all come up with different scenes involving Colin Firth.

I've only just seen it, but I already know the fight scene from the church is going to stay with me for a long time.

No clips on youtube yet, sorry.

I so want to see this movie. And I have a free pass for tomorrow. So pissed that the trains aren't running tomorrow so I can't go.

Ohhh man, that movie was so entertaining.

I mean, I had some issues with it, too, but it's worth seeing just for Colin Firth and that church scene.

I'm so predictable

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-02-09 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Boromir's "I would have followed you my brother, my Captain, my King," Gandalf's "The journey does not end here" speech (and frankly, half of Gandalf's dialogue; the 'Pity' scene about Gollum is beautiful too), Sam's "It's like in the great stories Mr. Frodo, the ones that really mattered." Oh, and "My friends, you bow to no one."

A billion others too, but those stick out.

And I have to admit I have a weakness for Thorin's death from Hobbit. "Go back to your books, and your armchair. Plant your trees, watch them grow."

I'll have to be predictable with you then, I love all those scenes. And Gandalf's in particular I find really comforting.

The Lighting of the Beacons, especially the last 40 seconds (roughly the 2 minute mark). It still chokes me up. Cinematic perfection.

Re: Favorite TV/Film Scenes H50 Spoilers for 5x04

(Anonymous) 2015-02-09 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't find a link to it, but a scene that I've really liked recently was from Hawaii Five-0 from the episode Ka No'eau. H50 can be pretty hit and miss sometimes (I say this as someone who loves the show), but every so often they'll have an episode or a scene that really works for me. This one in particular came at the end of the episode and tied up the whole "Danny's brother is being held hostage by a drug lord" storyline that was set-up at the beginning of the season. I think everyone pretty much guessed that Danny's brother would turn up dead, but it still packed a punch. The direction and the acting worked really well in it; when Reyes told his men to bring the brother to Danny and they wheeled in a barrel instead, you could really see the anguish on Danny's face as he realized that his brother had been dead the whole time. I don't think the scene would have worked half as well if they had showed his actual dead body. The implication that his body had been broken and stuffed into a metal barrel like garbage added an extra layer of awfulness to the whole thing and left more of an impact. Another part I really liked is that the part where Danny and Steve wrestle weapons away from Reye's body guards and then shoot them after they were dragged upstairs wasn't actually shown to the audience (because they've done things like that plenty of times before. We don't really need to explicitly see their badassery) and instead they chose to focus the camera on Reyes (still downstairs) so we could see him slowly realize that his men were dying and come to terms with how fucked he was. lol I've probably rambled about this scene enough, but basically I really liked it and Scott Caan's facial expressions and grief-rampage really sold me on it.

Another one I really liked recently was from the last episode of Enlisted. I'm still sad that the show was cancelled, but I think the last episode felt like a really good ending nonetheless and the last scene was gorgeous. The song choice worked really well and it was very emotional (ngl, I cried a lot) without being too cheesy or preachy when everyone told Pete that they would be there for him as he dealt with his PTSD. The fact that Lori Loughlin actually showed up in the end was great too

Leverage and SMK

(Anonymous) 2015-02-09 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The final scene of the final episode. It was the PERFECT finale, with perfect parallels from the final scene of the pilot, and where the characters are at makes sense, and the developments of the characters are so carefully built and so satisfying...my perfect show. Out of five seasons I only disliked 3 episodes, and it is intensely rewatchable and satisfying. SUCH A GOOD SHOW.

This scene from Scarecrow and Mrs King makes me laugh every time. EVERY TIME. Honestly, every scene where Scarecrow's preconceptions about how his 'housefrau' partner ("SHE'S NOT MY PARTNER") is going to act are completely overset delight me. And she does it ALL THE TIME.

The scene in Emma Thompson's adaptation of Sense and Sensibility where Elinor knocks on Mr Palmer's bedroom door and, for a split-second, he (Hugh Laurie) thinks she's come to seduce him. Then he fetches a doctor for Marianne. It's the perfect illustration of Austen's theme that you are what you marry -- had Mr Palmer married a intelligent woman, like Elinor, he wouldn't have retreated into cynicism; he would have been a decent man.

Shallowly, I love-love-love the scene in The Hobbit III where the elves vault over the dwarves' shield wall, and also the scene where Legolas runs up the crumbling stonework.

I used to love a couple of the dinosaurs-in-the-distance scenes from Jurassic Park I but, sadly, CGI has moved on since then, and they're no longer so convincing.

It may sound stupid but the scene in Spartacus (season 3, I think) when Crixus lets Naevia fight her rapist on her own, without intervening even when it looks like she's going to lose. I didn't even like them together before this scene, but that was the moment when they became my favorite relationship in Spartacus.

even some bad shows will occasionally have a scene where everything just falls together

That is exactly the criteria for my pick. Tango scene from Easy Virtue. So Jessica Biel should never, ever do Noël Coward again. But holy crap will I watch her and Colin Firth tango it up over and over again. It didn't quite redeem the badness of the movie, but it did significantly improve it for a brief, shining moment. *____*

And for actual good shows-- the end of Blackadder Goes Forth, and a bunch from Mad Men. Like this one:

HELL'S BELLS, TRUDY! THAT IS FINAL!!
