The scene in Emma Thompson's adaptation of Sense and Sensibility where Elinor knocks on Mr Palmer's bedroom door and, for a split-second, he (Hugh Laurie) thinks she's come to seduce him. Then he fetches a doctor for Marianne. It's the perfect illustration of Austen's theme that you are what you marry -- had Mr Palmer married a intelligent woman, like Elinor, he wouldn't have retreated into cynicism; he would have been a decent man.

Shallowly, I love-love-love the scene in The Hobbit III where the elves vault over the dwarves' shield wall, and also the scene where Legolas runs up the crumbling stonework.

I used to love a couple of the dinosaurs-in-the-distance scenes from Jurassic Park I but, sadly, CGI has moved on since then, and they're no longer so convincing.

...WHUT.

Well, I know what I'm rewatching tomorrow. How have I NEVER spotted that?

AYRT (because I didn't realise I wasn't logged in).

He says, "Miss Dashwood?!"

And she says she needs a doctor for Marianne.

Then he says something like, "Oh, yes, of course."

And the next morning he offers to stay with her in case he can help.

I never pegged that moment where he thought she was there to seduce him. EVER. The rest I got (including the whole he's a good person driven to cynicism by his marriage thing).

Mind = blown. And heck, it''s a good excuse for a rewatch of a film I love. :)

Be interesting to see if you agree. (I may have my Hugh-Laurie-is-sexy goggles on ;-)

You know, I remember watching that scene not too long ago, the one with Elinor at Mr. Palmer's door and I felt there was something there, underneath, in their exchange. But I figured I'd been in fandom for too long at that point and was seeing giants where there were only windmills. THANK YOU FOR VALIDATING ME. I always felt there was that extra solicitous attitude for Elinor, a kind of "God I wish you were my wife" vibe.
