Me too, though season 2 was still the weakest, imo. I still enjoyed it though.

honestly, I believe the end makes the early parts less annoying. The love triangle bullshit becomes a little more watchable when you know that later all of the characters look back on it as a spot of awkwardness and teenage mistakes.

Yes this times 100. It really does. I posted a bunch about that myself, most notably here, about how where it went made where it came from better - not by retconning, but by giving context and making it a part of a growing up life.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-11 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I didn't hate it, actually, and I didn't understand what the big fuss over the love drama was. Hell, I even liked Mako fine. But it wasn't particularly interesting, either. Being able to see the characters grow from adolescents to young adults, and how they change, and their relationships change... I think that makes the whole series a bit more meaningful. I personally get annoyed by "my childhood love is my true love!" stuff, such as Aang and Katara, so the fact that Mako and Korra split up like normal young people just was really cool, imo.

Well, you're wrong!

There's nothing wrong with disliking the show, but I really find the over the top haters of it here annoying.

Same, nonnie.

Me too, especially the last two seasons. I know someone will agree with me on this score, but I felt that fandom could get way too critical with "Korra". After a while I just left, as it felt like endless complaining when I just wanted to watch a beautifully animated show featuring three of my favourite female characters ever.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-11 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly how I feel, and I also thought the last two seasons were wonderful. Korra had beautiful animation, a great soundtrack, and characters I loved. People can hate on it all they want, it won't change how much I enjoyed it.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-11 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I always kind of thought a lot of people built up in their heads what Lok was suppose to be, that they weren't actually watching it for what it was.

I'm finally making my way through all of it after having been put off by season 1, and season 2 isn't bothering me THAT much (I'm on 2x09). Then again, I think part of my problem with season 1 was that I watched it week-by-week and when I watch things that way, it's easier for me to get fed up with problems. If I'm sitting down and watching a bunch of it at once, I'm less likely to be irritated since I know it'll be over soon and better stuff is coming.

Sadly season 2 is still my least favourite season, but overall I enjoyed LoK a lot. It was fun.

*casually pretends season 2 doesn't exist*

(Anonymous) 2015-02-11 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Me too.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-11 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
I thought season 2 was the weakest, but I still enjoyed a lot of it. Two things that I really didn't like was the mover-star!Bolin subplot and the fact that they had Korra be cut off from her past lives. That still kind of ticks me off

(Anonymous) 2015-02-11 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah Bolin kind of got shafted a lot of the time. Yeah, he was funny, but sometimes it felt like his character's purpose was to be made a fool of. In season 2 he didn't really grow at all, and his plot was pretty pointless in the end.

I was actually impressed that Korra got cut off from her past lives, though. "Permanent" ramifications are tough to pull off in a kids' show, but I liked it. I really thought that the Avatar line would be ended with her too by the end, I expected that from the Red Lotus or whatever, but they didn't go there. Would've been really interesting and shocking, but I guess kill any chance of a new series... though I don't believe they are planning that anyway.

Text: I loved this show. All of it.

I only liked the first season, and I pretty much pretend the rest of the show doesn't exist. I really wish they'd made Amon the big bad for the show instead of the clusterfuck that was the following seasons.

Said this on another site but, here we go---

I honestly believe the shortness of the seasons is what shot LOK in the foot, so to speak. Part of what made ATLA great is because the characters had depth, and with more episodes, you obviously get to develop them more. In Korra's story, we had fewer episodes so we didn't get that. I could go on forever about how I don't get all the love for the apparent fandom darling Miss Sato, as she was dreadfully flat in my humble opinion. (Lost a couple followers on Tumblr for that one...)I feel like Season 2 would have been a bit more satisfying if we had gotten to know the protagonists, both teen and adult, more, as well as the villains!

I can't even imagine how wonderful Season 3 would have been with more character exploration. Back-story on the Red Lotus, who were hands down my favorite antagonists? More insight into Lin and Suyin's childhood? Yes, please! And in Season 4, Kuvira's motivations would have made far more sense if we had gotten to know more about her childhood and her relationship with Su as well.

Everyone says the key to crafting a good story is to show and not tell, and I feel like in LOK, we had to tell more than what we got to show because of constraints on both time and eventually budget. It's really a classic case of getting screwed over by the network. There's a reason my good friend on Tumblr calls them "Dickelodeon."

Even I will admit that I think because the original was such a brilliant show, we are a little harsher on LOK than we would be if it were a standalone project with no ties whatsoever to Aang's world. I try to keep that in mind and treat it more like an individual series when I go off on little tangents like this, but after seeing just how good the show could be when it hit its stride in Change, I can't help but feel a little cheated by knowing what could have been with just a few more episodes. Again, I blame Nickelodeon more than Bryke.

And that's not to say LOK is a bad show; it isn't! Compared to a lot of the drivel on Nick alone, The Legend of Korra is the gem in a steaming pile of crap, and that's not even counting the other subpar programs they pass off as "entertainment" on Disney and CN. (I'm looking right at you, Dog With a Blog and Uncle Grandpa.) No no, LOK is a pretty awesome show, especially when pitted against the other things on TV these days, but will pale in comparison to ATLA for a good chunk of us, but when we critique it, we need to bear that preference in mind.

the entire series sucked.

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2015-02-11 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't completely hate season 2, there were parts I enjoyed, but overall, it's the weakest season.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-11 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Fuck, yes. When did it become shameful to actually like media, nearly unconditionally? I'm getting pretty tired of defending everything I like.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-11 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I really liked it. Season one less than the others, but even that became okay after a while. And I still think that Mako and Korra's breakup was one of the best I have seen in any canon.
