I had the opposite experience. I haven't written fanfic in a long time, been too focused on original stuff. Well, I went back recently and read a couple fics I had written six, seven years ago.

They were better than my today writing. I actually thought they were good. I was mad that the WIPs had never been finished. Lots of good feelings that I managed all of this, mixed with the bad feeling that somehow I became a much crappier writer.

Writing evolves and sometimes it evolves. It's not linear. It all depends on so many variables.

Well, I think the "we are our harshest critics" advice people are throwing out applies here too. I've heard people say this before about their old stuff, and in some of those instances I utterly disagreed.
